John grew up in Taupo which landed him his nickname, with 35 years experience Taupo has always had a thrill for adventure which led him into the helicopter career path.

Flying through Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Solomons and New Zealand. Taupo would say New Zealand is definitely the most spectacular place to fly with his personal favourite landing spot also including the one and only Earnslaw Burn.

Taupo’s most interesting flying experience was taking a Mil Mi-8 twin helicopter to Banda Aceh after the Boxing Day Tsunami. Taupo appreciates the variety in helicopters and the way it can show beauty and adventure while also being a crucial piece of logistics in helping people and the environment.
