Looking up at Queenstown’s snowy peaks from the comfort of a local café is pretty sweet, but actually standing on top of them? That is a whole different story. If you want to tick off a serious bucket-list adventure while you are in town, a Queenstown helicopter alpine snow landing is the absolute way to go. It is the perfect excuse to leave the crowds behind and experience the peaceful high country with the crew at Heliworks Queenstown.
Our 30-minute Snow Landing flight is a total crowd-pleaser, especially if you are short on time or travelling with the family. The fun kicks off the second you lift off from our Frankton base. You will get a front-row seat to the rugged, historic gorges of Skippers Canyon and sweeping views across the Whakatipu Basin before your pilot finds a pristine spot to touch down on a remote, snow-covered peak. Once landed, you can hop out, crunch around in the fresh powder, throw a couple of snowballs, and take some incredible 360-degree photos.

If you are keen to explore even further, we have plenty of awesome choices over on our Heliworks Scenic Flights page. You could check out the Earnslaw Burn Explorer to see massive hanging glaciers and cascading waterfalls, or go all out with the Fiordland’s Finest flight, which covers three different landings including the world-famous Milford Sound. All great ways to see snowy peaks in winter.
To make sure you have the best time up there, here are a few handy insider tips. Peak winter snow runs from June through to September, but if you are visiting us in the summer and still want to feel the chill, you can easily upgrade from an alpine snow landing to a glacier flight.
Since it gets pretty breezy on a mountaintop, make sure to layer up with a warm jacket, a beanie, and sturdy shoes, definitely leave the slides or heels at the hotel for this one. Also, remember to pack your sunglasses because the sun reflecting off that fresh white snow is no joke. Lastly, because mountain weather likes to do its own thing, keep an eye on the MetService Queenstown Weather Guide and try to book your flight for the first day or two of your holiday. That way, if the weather turns, we have plenty of time to reschedule your flight.

Winter spots fill up fast, so jump onto our Snow Landing Booking Page to lock in your seats for the 2026 season. If you are looking for something extra special or want to organise a private charter, just Contact the Heliworks Team and we will get you sorted!
