Earnslaw Burn

Located near Glenorchy, nestled at the bottom of Mount Earnslaw / Pikirakatahi, the Earnslaw Burn truly is New Zealand’s best-kept secret.

Here you’ll see some of the most spectacular scenery our country offers.  A meandering glacier-fed river, an array of wildlife, tussock, speargrass, and countless waterfalls. But the best bit is the mighty Earnslaw Glacier, which hangs above you at over 1,000 ft.

The Earnslaw Burn was made world-famous by the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films. Thanks to Travel Guides, it has become a must-see for many of our Australian and New Zealand-based guests.

Due to its sheer remoteness, exploring Mount Earnslaw with an Earnslaw Burn scenic flight is best. Our pilots will show you the basin and the hanging glacier with its blue-ice crevasses up close.

We have several Earnslaw Burn scenic flights available, including our Express and Explorer flights, plus our Picnic experience. A picnic is perfect for a romantic occasion or a great option if you’d like to extend your time for exploring. We also have heli-hike products available, and will soon add a chartered camping experience to our product portfolio.

You can also add an Earnslaw landing to some of our other flight options, like the Milford Sound-Heli-Cruise Heli. This location is also a fabulous option for wedding photography, private charters or commercial filming (approvals required).
